Washington Post Blog Links to OKPNS

Chris Cillizza, who writes a blog for the Washington Post named “The Fix,” links to a past Oklahoma Political News Service post that speculates on a possible run for governor by Congresswoman Mary Fallin in 2010:

Oklahoma (D): Gov. Brad Henry’s narrow win in 2002 and far easier re-election victory in 2006 were all the more remarkable when considering the fact that President Bush carried the state with 60 percent in 2000 and 66 percent in 2004. With numbers like that, Republicans are licking their chops about taking back a governor’s mansion they believe is rightly theirs. Rep. Mary Fallin, the state’s lieutenant governor for 12 years, is the most prominent Republican name mentioned. Read more

House Rejects Socialization of Banking System….For Now

 Taxpayers….Get ready!

Despite crazed lunatic opinion leaders like the NY Times uber-liberal Thomas Friedman running around saying the sky is falling, the folks who actually run the country won a round with Tuesday’s rejection of the socialization of the nation’s mortgage banking industry.

Cheers to those who voted against the so-called bailout and jeers to those who voted “aye.” The vote clearly defined the difference between the big government crowd and conservatives. On this matter, party affiliation matters very little: true conservatives voted no, the others yes. And while a bailout of some sorts is inevitable, the ensuing bill will be far better than the Giveaway to Billionaires Act that went down in flames Tuesday.

Oklahomans know a little more than most with their past economic struggles, and voters are seething over the Republican-led giveaway of hard-earned tax dollars to Oklahoma fat cats in this year’s legislative session.

Just to set the record straight, while Friedman and Speaker Pelosi and the cartoonish Barney Frank try to spin their way out of this by blaming everybody but themselves, even Frank’s own liberal hometown paper knows who is to blame. The idiotic Friedman blames those pesky voters, but this video proves over and over who really was looking the other way as the sub-prime mortgage house of cards was collapsing.

Meanwhile the action shifts to the Senate today. But our hats are off to congressional delegation members Mary Fallin, John Sullivan and Frank Lucas.

Mary Fallin Supporting Federal Legislation to Help Women in the Military

U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) chairs the military women’s task force, and according to a report in the Army Times and the Military Timis, supports legislation to:

…make sure sex-related crimes against women are prosecuted aggressively, and that programs are in place to help women suffering from sexual harassment and trauma, and from combat-related stress…[and help with] child care for parents who serve in the military.

According to the report, Fallin, who has some experience in dealing with military issues as Oklahoma’s lieutenant governor says,

Some single mothers in uniform have told her they are reluctant to report symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder out of fear that their mental health problems could be used against them in a custody dispute. Others have said it would be helpful if installations maintained lists of people available to provide emergency child care.

Fallin Votes to Regulate Internet; OKPNS Potential Domestic Terrorist?

899B. FINDINGS.

(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.

From Irons in the Fire:

Just bloody wonderful. Especially since I found out my Rep. Mary Fallin voted for it. I had to find that out at GovTrack(which I now have bookmarked). I also found this:

Oct 23, 2007: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. The totals were 404 Ayes, 6 Nays, 22 Present/Not Voting.

When the congresscritters ’suspend rules’ to cut debate like this, it’s usually not a good thing for us. And yes, I’m telling her what I think of it. Read more…

Mary Fallin Introduces Legislation To Exempt Overtime Pay From Income Taxes

Washington, DC — U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, R-Oklahoma City, introduced legislation yesterday that would exclude overtime pay from gross income, making it exempt from the federal income tax. The bill immediately attracted several cosponsors and has been endorsed by Americans for Tax Reform.

After the bill’s introduction, Fallin released the following statement:

“This bill would help to ensure that those who work the hardest get taxed the least. Exempting overtime pay from the federal income tax will reward hard work and help families save money. At a time when Americans are struggling to cope with rising gasoline prices and spiraling healthcare costs, the need to reduce their tax burden is obvious.

It’s Time to Evaluate Rep. Fallin’s Record

By Mickey Hepner

(The Edmond Sun)

EDMOND — The U.S. Congress wrapped up its 2007 business this week when members headed home for the holidays. Since this is the end of the year, and the end of Congress’ business for the year, this is a natural time for us to evaluate the work of our member of Congress, U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin.

Fallin is now midway through her first term in office after having won election in 2006 with just more than 60 percent of the vote. Previously, she had served three terms as Oklahoma’s lieutenant governor and two terms as a state representative. However, being a member of Congress has required Fallin to consider different issues than those she confronted in her previous roles. Now, after her first year representing us in Washington, we voters should begin to consider whether she is representing us well.

So, this week, we discuss Fallin’s record on four of the most important issues facing this country — the Iraq War, immigration reform, the number of uninsured children and the national debt. Read more…
