Batesline Questions Coates Appointment

There has to be some super Machiavellian reasoning behind this, right? Coates??? A guy who – during this past election – did robo calls FOR Democrats from THEIR party headquarters!

From Batesline:

“Why are the Oklahoma Senate Republicans putting their caucus’s lone HB 1804 opponent, an outspoken opponent of enforcing immigration laws, in charge of the Business and Labor Committee?…” Read more…

Cheap Labor Pimp Harry “Turn” Coates Sells Out Fellow Republican

From Examiner.com:

Most people – when they’ve been made an absolute fool of publicly – usually try to find the nearest hole to craw in to fade into obscurity. Not good ‘Ol “Republican” Senator ‘Harry “turn” Coates. I Learned last week that Coates did robo calls for District 93 Democratic candidate David Castillo. (Mike Christian was the eventual winner.) To add insult to injury, the calls were made from the state Democratic headquarters! Read more…

Ed Kelley Apologizes to Randy Terrill

http://americansfortruth.com/news/daily-oklahoman-editor-ed-kelley-dishonors-sally-supporters.htmlSort of…

In one of the more bizarre admissions we’ve seen in some time, The Oklahoman editorial Thursday touting the results of a study by the Center for Immigration Studies, a pro-immigrant group, suggesting tougher enforcement of immigration laws is leading many illegals to leave the country voluntarily. It’s a tacit admission that paper was wrong about Rep. Randy Terrill and HB 1804 all along; we’re just not sure if they actually realize what they’ve done.

The report says the illegal outflow began in August 2007, and in a spectacularly illogical conclusion, cites Congress’ refusal to deal with meaningful immigration reform as one of two reasons. We thinks not.

The second reason? Returning to life on this planet, the report claims “..that and stepped up efforts to penalize employers who hire illegal aliens were identified as key factors in the decline,” something the paper and their pro-illegal friends in the legislature have continued to battle to this very day. On this we agree, but you didn’t get “stepped up” efforts from a snoozing congress, do you?

Now let’s think this through: just where was it that stepped up efforts to penalize employers who hire illegal aliens? Could it be Oklahoma? We thinks so!

What seems more plausible is the role of HB 1804, Terrill’s immigration reform bill. The law was signed into effect on May 11, 2007, and the report says by August, the illegal tide was begin to flow the other way. It’s no coincidence: HB 1804 was much more than a little law in a small state, as the law and Rep. Terrill became part of the national conversation about illegal immigration. In short, HB 1804 became famous and popular nationwide as a symbol of the the common man and woman’s frustration with congress’ refusal to act on the issue. To remind you just how popular, State Sen. Harry Coates politely shared polling results with OKPNS readers. Terrill and HB 1804 were, to quote ZZ Top, “Yeah we bad, we’re nationwide.”

Perhaps printing this study is a signal that the editorial staff and the business leaders who continue to flood the legal system with frivolous lawsuits (tort reform, anybody?) that seek to elevate the rights of criminals over the rights of the law abiding have finally seen the light. Is it an admission of defeat, or can they not read between the lines? They’ve tried and failed to harm Terrill’s reputation and at the ballot box, and have failed miserably. Perhaps they’re ready to get on board with what’s good for America, and drop their anti-American pro-criminal stance. We sure hope so.

Bad advice can be bad for your reputation

And speaking of Randy Terrill, capitol insiders say Devon Energy CEO Larry Nichols is hopping mad at Terrill for publicly lumping his company in with the spectacular failure by the business group that failed to defeat the Moore Representative.

Devon, through Nichols personally and the Devon PAC, contributed $10,000 to Terrill’s opponent, who he then stomped at the polls. Terrill then laughingly called out the business leaders who had wasted their reputations and money, something the Devon CEO probably did not anticipate. But as they say, politics is a full-contact sport, something at which Terrill excels.

Observers say Chesapeake’s Tom Price, whose poor political instincts are well documented, is the one responsible for talking Nichols, who has a sterling reputation for integrity, into the ill-fated venture.

Read the Editorial in The Oklahoman: “A new analysis of census data argues enforcement activities other than deportation apparently are working in getting illegal immigrants to return home voluntarily.

OKPNS/McCarville Do Media’s Job; Coates Owes “A Few Fanatical Individuals” an Apology

It’s a shame that it took an embarrassing elapsed time clock – and frankly Mike McCarville following up on our lead – for Dirty Harry Coates to admit that he himself ended the senate investigation into the alleged theft of his emails. After the House surveillance tapes showed no suspicious characters “breaking into his office,” Coates quietly ended the investigation and hoped and prayed the sleepy Oklahoma media would let the story die. Loyal readers of OKPNS knew we weren’t going to let Sen. Turncoats off the hook that easy.

From The McCarville Report Online:

A Department of Public Safety investigation into the disappearance of a confidential file in the possession of Republican Senator Harry Coates has ended at his request, The McCarville Report Online has learned.

A letter from Coates, R-Seminole, dated April 30, reports that the investigation to that point had found nothing conclusive and to avoid additional expense, he asked that it end.

The internal probe apparently involved a review of camera images of the hallway outside Coates’ office. That review obviously produced no evidence the file was taken from Coates’ office.

There are still a couple of issues here that need to be tied up. One, at Coate’s press conference, he called the alleged burglars “a few fanatical individuals” who were against his attempts to repeal the popular HB 1804. Doesn’t he now owe an apology to law abiding citizens who are only trying to protect the safety of their families and the sovereignty of their country? And second, in order for the Senate investigation to have started, the senator had to file a police report. Since everyone now knows Dirty left the documents in the crapper – and he knows that we know he left the documents in the crapper – did Dirty Harry knowingly file a false police report? These are a few questions we’ll be following for you over the next couple of days.

Are 1804 Foes Through With Terrill?

From the “way too much time on your hands” department, we came across a Facebook page today titled, “What is the matter with Randy Terrill?” The fledgling page has only attracted 15 members, and not surprisingly, all the members are of Hispanic heritage except for five. Maybe all of the potential members have gone home!

The administrator for the page is Fannie Bates. Bates’ is a teacher, activist, and a perennial candidate in Oklahoma city. Like fellow socialist Andrew Rice, The Daily Kos blog is a big fan of hers too. Get your barf bags ready after you read this:

“Friends, once or twice in a generation, a voice comes along that cries out to be heard for its depth or breadth, for its insight, for its passion, for its joy at the human experience, or for its simple righteousness and indignation, its witness of abuses to that same human experience. Depending upon the zeitgeist, that voice may be heard: Tecumseh at Prophet’s Town, John Brown at Harpers Ferry, Susan B. Anthony at Seneca Falls, Martin Luther King at Montgomery, Lech Walesa at Warsaw, Nelson Mandela at Johannesburg. On the other hand, it may lost among the billions of squeaks creeping in their petty paces from day to day. If DailyKos can be an effective force for progressive change in the world, then surely part of its value is in giving audience to those voices telling the truth from the far-flung corners and crevices of our country. It’s in that spirit – friends, Romans and countrymen – that I ask you to lend your ears to a bonafide freedom fighter and truth teller from Norman, Oklahoma. Fannie Bates, here’s your megaphone. Tell `em.” Read more…

Even with HB1804 being the law and the repeal effort long dead, Rep. Terrill should still watch his back for dirty op research tricks from his enemies in the waning days of his campaign.

Hargis Appointed to Chesapeake’s Board of Directors

Not a too surprising development after it was revealed that Hargis was “in agreement” with Chesapeake’s clandestine efforts earlier this year to repeal the wildly popular HB 1804. Below is an excerpt from our series:

“For those not reeling from the hilarious and inept planning musings, comic relief is just around the corner when you examine the comments about the state chamber, Agriculture Commissioner Terry Peach (“he said he will get out front on this”); the governor (“He needs to take a stand on something of substance, this is the right issue”); the Indian Affairs Commission (“it amazes me that they keep quiet on this when they were treated so poorly by the “first immigrants”). Further, the writer pens some unflattering remarks from what appears to be Dirty Harry include Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins (“not want to rock the boat”)

The writer also implicates more co-conspirators: including the Regents for Higher Education, (Burns Hargis … is in agreement with our effort”), and state treasurer Scott Meacham (“Amy Sparks who is the Chief of Staff offered her help last week”). Read more…

Green County Values blog has their own take on Hargis’ appointment:

“A lot of us have been wondering why it was so important for V. Burns Hargis to go to work at Oklahoma State University in March instead of waiting until July (in plenty of time for the school year to start), that we had to change Oklahoma law on allowing University Regents to hire themselves (changing the wait time from one year to six months)….It also put him in a good position to help Chesapeake Energy fight the enforcement of HB 1804, the immigration bill Oklahomans worked so hard to pass. (It’s probably a coincidence that one of the recent large donors was Chesapeake…?)” Read more…

OK Press Should Take Notes from Their Missouri Colleagues

OK media lap dogs drop the ball on Sen. ‘Dirty” Harry Coates “stolen documents” case

“The Star, AP and St. Louis paper seek to join Blunt e-mail case” - Kansas City Star 6/11/08

This headline – and similar headlines – were front and center yesterday on the websites of all the major Missouri news organizations yesterday. Although it’s outrageous for an “objective and unbiased” press to purposely inject itself into the middle of a hot Governor’s race by joining a lawsuit by the attorney general against the governor, there are those who would argue that an aggressive press that is willing to expose corruption and inform the public is a good thing. It really all comes down to a question of motive doesn’t it? Did I mention that the Democrat attorney general is also currently running for governor?

All of the above is really just a set up for the rest of this post. We celebrated the two month anniversary yesterday of Sen. “Dirty Harry” Coate’s infamous “somebody stole my documents” press conference at the Capital. “Dirty” swore that he was going to get to the bottom of this and that somebody was going to pay! It’s been two months now and the public still has not received an accounting of the final results from the taxpayer paid investigation. OKPNS is calling for the Capital police to immediately release the videos and the results of the investigation.

More importantly, where is the Oklahoma press, the esteemed fourth estate, the defenders of the first amendment? The public has a right to know if there is a skillful Houdini out there that crept into Coates’ office unseen and unheard and slipped away with Chesapeake’s master plan to repeal HB 1804 – or as what is commonly believed – Coates simply left the documents in a Capital restroom. Either way, the public has a right to know.

Is Dirty Harry’s “Stolen” Documents Investigation Still Ongoing?

“Am I crazy, it is 10:30 and I have had lots of wine but I really like this argument!” Otie Ann Fried – Fried Kilpatrick Guinn Consulting

The FBI looks like they’ve had a little too much wine, too!

Oklahoma’s feeble chambers of commerce, who ironically have filed a frivolous lawsuit that would have the effect of allowing some businesses to break the law and hire illegal immigrants, may have succeeded in finding an ally: the FBI.

Oklahoma has embarrassed the federal government on the illegal immigration issue. Both parties in Washington have dawdled as the situation grows more and more explosive. Now comes the revelation that the FBI is joining the incompetency parade regarding a backlog of background checks.

Somewhere Dirty Harry is celebrating: perhaps he’s hoping the FBI will join the “investigation” into his “stolen documents.”

Dirty Harry addressing the media on April 10th about his “stolen documents.”

And speaking of bumbling Investigations: 2 Months and No Arrests!

Two months ago yesterday, the capitol press corps breathlessly reported Coates’ press conference in which the Seminole Senator reported he had been the victim of a “crime.” The next day’s headlines screamed about the “crime” and senate officials reported the investigation would take two weeks, but we’re now at two months into the investigation.

Now we all know the truth: Dirty left the docs in the crapper, OKPNS informed the public about the hapless plot, and the multi-million dollar repeal effort sputtered to a halt. Now those who enjoy exploiting illegal immigrants for low wages are pinning their hopes of continued lawlessness on the judicial system. How’s that for irony?

So two months after Dirty Harry lied to the press and the press fed the lies to the public, it seems to be forgotten as the same folks who lied to us and profess to hate frivolous use of the legal system are doing just that.

Don’t hold your breath hoping that anybody in the capitol press gang does a follow up story on Dirty’s phony claims. It’s just not going to happen. It took a miracle that the public found out about the plot in the first place, and we can be sure that the capitol press corps will do their best to make sure that never happens again!

Domestic Partners: Aubrey McClendon & Jim Roth

Since the mainstream media has rolled over and played dead on this issue, it’s great to see Mark Shannon and the blogosphere do their jobs for them.

From markshannon.com

Why  AUBREY MCCLENDON would be an Honorary Co-Chairman for a homosexual candidate for CORPORATION COMMISSIONER. Mighty convenient when you’re in the OIL AND GAS BUSINESS, don’t you think? No conflict in interest there, huh? No ethical questions? No appearance of wrong-doing, do ya think??!!!?!?!

In a letter mailed to friends by Mr. Bennett and Mr. McClendon they state, “Moving Oklahoma forward by making it a better place to work and live is a mutual goal. Jim Roth also shares our vision of a pro-growth Oklahoma.” They continue, “As the Incumbent, he is a leader that demonstrates the vision, integrity and experience necessary for the responsibility of this position.”

(Insiders tell me that AUBREY is upset with REPUBLICANS because they won’t rescind 1804, making it easier for Chesapeake companies like TOTAL ENVIRONMENT to more easily hire cheap, illegal, labor.

Apparently one of McClendon’s minions has been calling in Republicans on various levels of government and reading them the riot act, TELLING THEM they should bend to his will. Apparently only Harry TURN Coates is willing to do his bidding, because 1804 still stands.) Read more…
