Kool Aid Alert!

From Alternative Tulsa:

“George Bush could not say it. When he was asked about his mistakes in office, Bush could not think of one.

It’s refreshing, then, that Barack Obama is honest enough to admit his mistakes and accept responsibility.”

Give me a break! The “mistake” you wanted Mr. Bush to admit was overthrowing Saddam Hussein and freeing 30 million people! Depending on your political persuasion, calling this a mistake is debatable. Nominating three four people in a row who don’t pay their taxes is such an obvious mistake, that even Stevie Wonder could see it. Put down the Kool Aid please!!!

Quote of the Day: Henry Takes Pot Shots @ OKPNS & Rep. Terrill

“We can push polarizing legislation that grabs the attention of bloggers and talk radio, or we can pursue legislation that propels Oklahoma firmly into the 21st century.”

Were the Governor’s remarks yesterday at his state of the state address motivated by this OKPNS post? Hmmm.

Monkey Business

From the Tulsa Beacon:

The University of Oklahoma has planned a yearlong “celebration” of the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of his controversial theory of evolution.

Based on planned activities, it will be a one-sided presentation by faculty members who plan to discount or ignore other theories including Intelligent Design or Creationism from the Bible.

Unlike Creationism, Darwinism will be portrayed as science rather than a religion.

“This is an evangelistic meeting,” said Dr. G. Thomas Sharp said in an interview with the Tulsa Beacon. “There isn’t any genuine science behind this. This will be like a big Sunday School class.” Read more…

Lost Ogle Interviews Jim Roth

Q: Congratulations on your new position at Phillips Murrah. In a recent Journal Record column, Ted Streuli wrote that the Phillips Murrah Christmas Card was one of his favorites from 2008. How does it feel to work for a firm that does such an outstanding job at extending holiday cheer?

A: …Nothing says ‘aggressive law firm’ like “Ho, Ho, Ho.”

Q: What exactly are you going to do at Phillips Murrah? I assume it will be more than just counting paperclips and making sure everyone turns out the lights.

A: I am working with other P|M members to build a practice group that specializes in emerging energy and environmental issues, including the likelihood of new opportunities (renewables) and new regulations (water and air), among others, from the new Obama Administration and local jurisdictions. We want Oklahoma to be successful in all forms of Energy.

Q:  One time a group of attorneys from there bought me several rounds of drinks at a trendy downtown spot and then tried to convince me to start using a “doggie daycare” service. Have they done this to you? Read more…

Here’s a question we would have loved to have heard Mr. Roth answer. What ever happened with your ‘95 DUI case?

My Two Cents for Chairman Steele

From Examiner.com:

I want to send my congratulations to the new RNC Chairman Michael Steele. I am guardedly optimistic that Steele will successfully open up the good ‘ol boy network and affect real and necessary change within the party apparatus. I am not overly optimistic – because like any bureaucracy – the pencil pushers and the bean counters are who really run them. They are always still there, long after a “reformer” has left the scene.

To be candid, I don’t understand why Mr. Steele would even want this job. Steele will be the face of the party and the media will find and create opportunities to have him bash the president. Justice Clarence Thomas must have released a big sigh of relief after Saturday’s vote because he knows he will no longer be the sole poster child for us “Uncle Tom’s,” “Bootlickers,” and “sell outs.” I have two pieces of advice I’d like to offer our new Chairman. Sen. Inhofe Video Interview: Stimulus: Projects to Buy People Off

Hat tip: NewsmaxTV

Oklahoma Sen. James Inhofe tells Newsmax TV items in the trillion dollar stimulus bill that will do nothing to stimulate the economy, like giving refunds to people who don’t pay any taxes. He notes the House version would even give money to illegal aliens. Also, hear the Republican lawmaker explain why closing Gitmo is a very dangerous and foolish idea. He hasn’t given up the fight to keep it open and explains why.

Oklahoma Doesn’t Need Official Language Law

I have just read in the Daily O’Collegian that “[a] group of lawmakers … are refiling legislation … to make English the official language of Oklahoma government in an effort to save taxpayer money and help legal immigrants assimilate into American society.”

In another venue the chief sponsor of this legislation, Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, has said that “census data shows that learning to speak English is a near guarantee that immigrants will increase their earning power. This bill will improve the lives of immigrants, foster better relations between all citizens and grow our economy.” Although careful studies in many sites have shown the expense of services in other languages is vastly overestimated, that is not the reason for my response. This initiative presupposes that there are many legal immigrants who do not learn or even want to learn English and that a punitive whip is needed to get them going. Nothing in recent surveys suggests that this is true.

The rapidity and thoroughness of learning English is better in the current climate than it was when many of our grandparents (well, mine) and great-grandparents (probably yours) came to the U.S. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Read more…

Quote of the Day: “Ken Blackwell’s Life is the American Dream.”

From Hotline On Call:

Ken Blackwell’s name was put into nomination by OK GOP Party Chairman Gary Jones, who heralded Blackwell’s journey from the projects to the OH Sec. of State’s office.

Jones: “I’m not looking for somebody to do what I do. I’m looking for someone to complement what I do. … We need someone who is a proven leader. … It’s fitting that it’s Super Bowl weekend. Ken Blackwell has a record of 13 and 4. A proven record of being elected. … Ken Blackwell’s life is the American dream.” Read more…
