WRS Releases February 2009 Political Assessment

From Examiner.com:

Leading national research and consulting firm Wilson Research Strategies (WRS) has released their February 2009 “National Political Environment Assessment.” Here is a summary of their findings:

Americans are still pessimistic about the direction of the country, even after Obama’s inauguration.

Negative perceptions of and fears about the economy are at the forefront of the public’s consciousness.

Barack Obama is attempting to start his presidency off on the right foot by focusing the energy of the government towards the issue. Read more…

OK Legislators’ Blog: “Sponsoring Additional Term Limits”

Senator Gumm’s “Senate Minute” for Feb. 13-19, 2009

Hello again, everyone! Throughout my legislative career – and really, my entire life – I always have believed we must do everything possible to help children.

As many of you know, Deena and I struggled for years to become parents before the Lord blessed us with Jacob. That struggle, and then holding my precious newborn son three years ago, strengthened my unshakeable belief that our best efforts should be for our most precious resource.

Oklahoma’s children face many challenges. Nothing done at the State Capitol is more important than removing those challenges, giving every child the best chance to become what God intends.

Too many children in Oklahoma face the specter of poverty. Last year, the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy inducted me into its Hall of Fame for my efforts against childhood poverty.

Health issues follow our children. One of the most serious is autism, which is why I am so passionate about providing health insurance coverage for disorder. Read more…

Sponsoring Additional Term Limits

By Rep. Jason Murphey

I am a big supporter of Oklahoma’s term limit laws.

There is little doubt that term limits on Oklahoma legislators was a key factor in the breaking up of the “old guard” political machine that used to dominate Oklahoma politics.

Those of us who are fighting to put an end to the abuses of the past face an increased likelihood of success, due in part to the fact that there are many new elected officials who have taken office in the past few years. Many of these individuals have not been corrupted by the political process. Unlike some of their predecessors, they are not career politicians. Oklahoma’s term limit law allows all representatives and senators to serve a maximum of only twelve years in the Legislature. After that, they are under a lifetime ban from ever again holding office in the Legislature. Read more…

Ernest Istook: “Show Us the Money”

“This is not a road to recovery. This is a recipe for disaster.” -Tom Cole (R-Okla.)

With all eyes focused on how the Pelosi-Reid-Obama “stimulus” plan spends money, there’s been less attention paid to where government will get the money — and with what consequences.

It must come out of someone’s pocket.  The decision by “stimulus” sponsors?  Borrow the money, mostly from foreign economies.  America already borrows heavily from other countries — especially the Chinese.  But we should remember that whoever pays the piper gets to call the tune.  Foreign lenders aren’t inclined to whistle “Yankee Doodle!”

But foreign economies are not an infinite source of credit.  They have their own troubled economies to worry about.  And when they go looking for overseas investment opportunities, they’re going to be looking for the best deal. Read more…

AP: 4 of 5 Oklahoma reps vote against economic bill

“Boren, D-Muskogee, said he supported the bill because Congress needed to take “bold, swift action” to avert a worsening of the economic downturn.”

 RedState.com:

[Oklahoma Democratic Congressman Dan] Boren said Obama “missed an opportunity” for the stimulus bill to be bipartisan.

“It was a good thing for the president to meet with Republicans. The previous administration never met with Democratic members of Congress.

“The problem is that it became a Democrat bill and not an American bill,” Boren continued, “because he didn’t use any of the Republican ideas.”

Quote of the Day: Coburn On His “Personal Friendship” With Obama

National Journal:

“I’ll defend him as a man of integrity and a man of good spirit, but I’m going to have disagreements with him. We have a different political philosophy, but we have a personal friendship that, even when I’m against him, it doesn’t affect that personal friendship. I pray for him every day.” Read more…

Initial Outlook: SLIGHT ADVANTAGE FOR THE REPUBLICANS.”

The Laughter Just Keeps On Coming!

Just hours after a lame attempt to sully the reputation of new County Commissioner Brian Maughan, reporter Unseen Dean wrote what some insiders say is one of the worst stories they’ve ever seen in the Daily Irrelevancy. Now that’s saying something!

Maughan, who campaigned on a promise to restore integrity to the office, has been making good on his promise. An internal investigation by Maughan’s new team has uncovered more disturbing revelations, which in turn have spurred yet another investigation into the former commissioner by the District Attorney.

The now obviously red-faced Dean wrote what insiders say is a distorted, error-filled piece that attempts to downplay the role Maughan’s team, and, when the full story emerges, will be even embarrassing for the now largely-irrelevant paper.

“One day after ripping Maughan for how he assembled his team, Unseen Dean has to eat it and admit the new team is much better than the old team. No wonder the story stinks so badly,” our insider says.

Since the Daily Irrelevancy is unable to report fairly and accurately about this story, OKPNS will! After all, the Irrelevancy ignored the Dirty Harry Coates saga last year, but you still got the truth. No wonder why Brad Henry and other liberals like Unseen Dean hate the blogs and talk radio so much!
