OKPNS: “If CNG is the Answer, It Must be a Really Stupid Question!”

The proposed Obama-Pelosi “economic stimulus” would end the era of merely big government and replace it with leviathan government.
“It’ll never go away,” says Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), calling the plan “a permanent increase at a time when we are in the worst financial shape we’ve ever been in.” He adds, “None of this is going to stimulate anything.”
However, President Barack Obama says size doesn’t matter. As he said at his inaugural, “The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works.” Read more…

Last week, President Obama issued an executive order closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which houses hundreds of suspected terrorists and enemy combatants. I was shocked by this announcement, but even more concerned by the fact that the President had no plans as to what would happen next.
Where would these prisoners, terrorists who are intent on harming Americans, go? Would we release them on American soil? Transport them to American prisons? Return them to their country of origin? And if they stay in this country, what rights would be afforded to them?
If they are released or transferred to another country, we cannot ensure they will not return to the battlefield or attempt to attach Americans or our allies. In fact, according to the Pentagon, 61 detainees who were released from Guantanamo have returned to terrorist activities. Read more…
The other day, we asked if the the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority were a bunch of fascists. After that post, several readers commented on their sparse viewership. Well apparently the bloggers over at The Lost Ogle are avid followers of Oklahoma’s politburo television.
Here’s an excerpt from a post that someone over there found humorous. Look, we push the envelope – and we’re proud of that – but this post titled. “Glenn Coffee has Herpes” with a picture of him with a cold sore on his lip wasn’t remotely funny; it was classless and tasteless:
“After seeing this picture of him on the Oklahoma News Report, I’m now fully expecting “Herpes Reform” to be on the 2009 legislative agenda.
Granted, we should note that Glenn has the common Herpes Simplex Virus I, and not the really bad Herpes Simplex Virus II, but who really cares. It makes for a great headline, and it proves that someone does watch the OETA News Report. Angela Rosecrans would be proud.” Read more…

We all know the Oklahoma press corps needs a major enema! Here’s reason # 1,953:
From the State Sunshine & Open Records blog:
My friend and colleague Paul Jacob was indicted in Oklahoma in June 2007 by attorney general Drew Edmondson.
When the Citizens in Charge Foundation (CICF) sent out a press release to the Oklahoma media last week, announcing that the charges had been dropped, the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority — the public television station in Oklahoma — sent a “spam complaint” to Hostica, the company that hosts the CICF website, causing the website to temporarily be pulled.
I would think that getting press releases about Oklahoma-related news would be all in a day’s work for the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority, and would not be something to cause someone at OETA to go to the trouble of filing a spam complaint with CICF’s server. I’d be curious to know who made that decision, and why, and how it was executed. Read more…
Incredibly, this is not the first time OETA has reported Mr. Jacob’s emails as spam to their hosting provider!

More kudos to you Red Stater. There’s been numerous times I’ve wanted to write a post about the good doctor’s goofy ideas. Unfortunately, I couldn’t spare the time I would need to get rid of my headache after the task was completed!

Leading national research and consulting firm Wilson Research Strategies (WRS) has released their January 2009 “National Political Environment Assessment.” Here is a summary of their findings:
Barack Obama Presidency begins with voter expectations at an unprecedented high level.
*The downside of running such a successful campaign is that voters now expect Obama to bring “change they can believe in.”
*In general, voters, including large segments of Republicans, are willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt, at least initially. Click here to read more…
The Oklahoma Political News Service would like to send birthday greetings to former State Representative Trebor Worthen. No listing on his Facebook page on his age, but we’ll assume it’s safe to say he’s under 40!
*On a personal note, Trebor was instrumental in having Rep. Anastasia Pittman appear and speak at a kids tap dance festival that my significant other’s boss puts on every year in St. Louis. Last year, they put the show on the road and performed in Oklahoma City. I asked Trebor could he connect me with Rep. Pittman and he graciously made this happen for us. Rep. Pittman’s father is in the Jazz Hall of Fame and it made the event even more special for the kids. Thank you Sir, and have a great one!
Last week, we expressed our lament at being nominated again this year for an Okie Blog Award:
“The folks that run the Okie Blog Awards sure have a wicked sense of humor. This is the third year in a row that we have been nominated for the “Best Political Blog” award. Now, they know that we know, that they know, that we don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the award due to the fact that our editor lives in Missouri. Unfortunately, he learned of this fact AFTER making the six hour drive to Oklahoma City in ‘07. Thanks, but no thanks for the recognition gentleman!”
One our fellow “Oklahoma” bloggers gave us a few kind words today to help soften the emotional trauma we’re experiencing. From Violins and Starships:
“Oklahoma Political News Service – Very good but actually from Missouri…”
