It seems Tulsa Blogger Stan Geiger has been dipping a little too heavily into the Hatorade stash. Geiger wrote the following tirade against the BlogNetNews.com (BNN) “most influential blog” rankings for Oklahoma. For the record, we think BNN is doing a fine job!
BNN also comments on the political influence of bloggers—as it sees things. It issues a ranking of the top 20 on a weekly basis. Supposedly, there is some kind of secret formula that determines the rankings. It is with this “Most Influential” ranking that I have developed a problem. It appears to me the system has become corrupt.
I hesitated to write this piece. I don’t want people thinking this is all about sour grapes. I can fully understand, particularly in any given week, why certain bloggers might rank above me. But I have gone from being a highly rated political writer in BNN’s eyes to a guy that can’t get the time of day in the rankings. The change has been radical, it came abruptly, and it seems to have coincided with the hiring of a new Oklahoma editor: an Oklahoma blogger that goes by the name of Sinister….Sinister is very openly gay, he’s ultra-liberal and he’s an unabashed atheist. I just read Stan Geiger’s comments. He made no hateful statements. Geiger said nothing the editor has not already admitted. Geiger did question his objectivity and the objectivity of the BNN ratings. That is not hate. The “Hateorade” comment was unjustified. Geiger is not the first person to notice a change in the ratings after the change in the editor. FGO noticed and commented on the same thing earlier.
I don’t know what the administration of BNN national is up to, but frankly, after the changes we’ve seen, you have to take their ratings and editorial decisions with a grain of salt. Last week, I had the best week ever on my blog. Highest number of hits. I was quoted twice by Batesline, the defacto gold standard for Oklahoma blogs, and quotes from my blog entries were repeated on other blogs and news sites all over the U.S. I was amazed to find my comments on an East Coast New York Times based blogrunner for Ivy League types. But, my influence rating went DOWN last week not up. Consequently, based upon the empirical evidence, the influence rating system here is either wildly inaccurate or simply out of whack. So, I’m just not going to pay a lot of attention to it any more and I suspect that other people will do the same as they begin realizing what is going on.

Oh who gives a shit? I couldn’t care less. I’ve been #1 and #10. Makes no difference to me. Seriously, whose ego is so invested in their blog that it matters? (Rhetorical question.)

maybe I got some of the same batch
much better ambiance than crow
McCarville and OPNS probably have
the most real influence but BNN
measures a range of things for
a potpourri of influence
There are ways to scam the system
if you have a bit of insider or self
learned technique and
knowledge.
BTW Bill Kumpe is
a great asset to our conservative
cause…so listen to him please.
I just like it out here

Senator Coburn is holding S.1738 Protecting our Children hostage! The bill would fund law enforcement to enable them to arrest and prosecute Internet Crimes Against Children. Currently law enforcement know of more than 700,000 locations where child pornography is being downloaded. Less than 2 % of these crimes are being investigated. Department of Justice estimate that there is a child victim being tortured and raped at 30% of these locations. The bill would cost less than $2. per year per child in the US. Coburn thinks that’s too much. Law enforcement are being overwhelmed by these crimes. We need to protect our children. Everyone in OK needs to let Senator Coburn know that our children are worth it and pass this bill this session.
