Election Year is “Free Ride” for Some Lawmakers

Dozens of Oklahoma state law makers are getting what they call a “free ride” this election cycle. It means no one filed to run against them in the State House or Senate. Simply by paying a filing fee they retain their legislative job and salary. Among those who won’t have to hit the campaign trail, Senator Mike Mazzei and Representative Eric Proctor of Tulsa and Representative Wade Rousselot of Wagoner County. This is his second election in a row without an opponent.

State Senator Mike Mazzei of Tulsa says he spends about one or two hours a day on legislative business when Legislature is not in session.

 

In addition, he believes state law makers are overpaid. He points out that while Oklahoma’s teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation, our legislators are among the highest paid. He donates 20 percent of his Senate salary to educational charities. Read more…
